BASIC ON-LEASH OBEDIENCE A
four week course for dogs
5 months or older. While it is always best to begin training as
early as possible in a dog's life, there is never a time when it
is simply too late. Good response to commands begins with on-leash
training to establish firmly a dog's response that you
are dominate in the relationship. We will help you establish good
communication between you and your dog by teaching response to commands
given, and we will be teaching you how to give and enforce commands.
We also work on correction of habits such as jumping on people or
mouthing hands or clothing.
After
approximately 4 weeks of in board training we will then give you, the
owner, a demonstration of your dog's full obedience circuit. You will
then have your first lesson on how to handle your dog with it's newly
learned obedience. At the end of the lesson you will leave your dog
with us and schedule an appointment to come back your next available
day. We want you and your family to get in as many lessons as you can
over a 1 week period of time. At the end of each lesson we will be working
with you on housebreaking, chewing, digging, and general problem solving.
After
a week of lessons you are ready to take your dog home. We then go to
your home to do an in-home lesson. This lesson is not just to show you
how to do the obedience again but is to teach you how to apply what
you and your dog learned at the kennel. We will be going over things
such as what to do when you have company over, what do you do to keep
your dog out of unwanted rooms, how to safely defrost a chicken on the
counter, or whatever problems need to be worked out between you and
your dog. Once you have your dog back in your home with the family the
training and support does not end. We encourage you to come back and
do additional lessons with us at no additional charge for the life of
the dog, these lessons are done here at our school.
